To create a curl with one shape use the knife tool and then slice one of the corners. The sliced piece is going to be your curl..
To Create a Curl with Four Shapes
Draw a rectangle over your shape and place it to cover the area of the wanted area of the curl. Select the 2 objects then copy, then paste both the shapes. This makes four shapes on the page. You might need to move those pasted shapes. Select the 2 original shapes. Then select Crop under the Combine Paths submenu under the Modify menu. This will create the curl.
