Will Google Fonts "kill" traditional font designers?

Hi all,

My friend consider him self a Typographer, a font designer.
He makes an honest leaving out of that designing beautiful fonts and original stuff.
My concerns for him is that recant "google fonts" and alike, will do a lot of damage for him and his kind.
what do you think?

There will always be companies or people who look for unique, customized fonts (for logos, body copy, etc). Your friend should be fine

Well I guess thats a comfort. specialising in typography does make you a better logo designer
also, he mostly design in hebrew so it will take some time until Google goes middle eastern types.

Google fonts are both good and bad. The good: They will give "Comic Sans"-users a little more (and better) to choose from. The bad: clients will force us designerns to use them, instead of paid fonts.

Why does it have to be paid fonts? Google has some nice fonts
