Hello,
First off let me introduce myself - I'm Abhay Singh, a 2nd year Graphic Design student currently studying at Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pune, India. I guess I can say I have a fair amount of experience working online on logos and websites. I've been registered on this forum for the longest time, but I haven't found it possible to post here due to college, assignments etc. In any case, now that I'm back here, I've had a look around the contest forums and found some really nice work and some good designers.

Well getting to the topic now, I've recently done a redesign for the Garnier Fructis range of hair care products for a college project. I'd appreciate any constructive criticism, feedback and general comments on it if you could spare me some time. :) Here's a link to the work:
http://deathdart.dev...design-71577628

And a link to the case study:
http://www.pixelguise.com/garnier.zip

I've decided to give it a more lively and youthful look through this design. Notice the new logo, colors and imagery. You might say that the original defining Fructis green is diminished in this redesign, but it's done to make it more appealing to the target audience. For a more detailed study, please refer to the given case study link.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am studying packaging design it is not bad but it actually looks less for hair shampoo. If you look at the graphics it is almost like it is a fruit drink. Cause the water make people think more of a bubbly think then a shower.

The bubbly water makes kind of look like this. Only the packaging it self make it a shampoo bottle. Would it be printed on a PET bottle then it would been a citrus fruit drink. Also you need to choose between a lemon and a lime because I see front uses limes and back uses a lemon. They are 2 different citrus like a orange and a grapefruit.

I actually like the redesign you've done. The fruit in the water imagery makes me think fresh, clean, organic, and since more women these days are concerned about chemicals and stuff in their beauty products you're heading in the right direction.

Just a few things: on front of the bottle around the lime there is a shadow that looks a little. . . smudged? I would tone the shadow down a bit more , and move it closer to the edge the lime to fit in with the other shadows. Also I'm not sure if "Oil Repair" is the correct term, usually "Oil Control" is what people are looking for. Also I don't really like how the bubbles and yellow graphic just overlap the logo a little bit, I would explore placement a bit more.

I really like the back but I don't think you need the extra lemon behind the ingredients.

I have to disagree with some of what Chung said. :p I don't think it looking like juice in necessarily a problem, since it will be with the shampooo section and is clearly marked. However, I think pantene has a similar design with their Shea butter. And also I believe fructis is made with citrus fruits and a few other fruits oils and such, so I reckon more than one fruit shown, is OK, because its not just one specific "flavor."
"Why?"

The redesign is quite nice but i feel that it's a bit too normal. Yes there's freshness, etc.. but looks like another shampoo. There need to be something that will catch people's attention. I really like the "old" green bottle fructis used. The green was enough to show freshness etc.. The graphic image that you created is nice but i think it should be more exciting. Maybe the water bubbles should show movement. ~V~ is right, more that one fruit can make it more interesting.

I like your 'take' n the packaging/logo...as a consumer/designer my concern is...is it shampoo OR JUICE.....the packaging 'says' juice, as well as the logo......I'd focus solely on, How will the consumer see it?????? I'd bring this home and put it in my fridge:)

emmm, I just don't see the word shampoo

Hey, thanks for the feedback.

I'd like to tell you first that this redesign has been done for the Indian market only after researching competitors etc. present in India as was the scope of our assignment.

@Chung Dha : I believe you might feel that it looks like juice bottle if you look only at the label, but considering the transparent/translucent bottle and the viscous white liquid inside it, I doubt whether anyone would think it is fruit juice. Further, in the Indian market, all fruit juices are available only in boxes like the one shown in your picture and not in plastic bottles. And the direction I've chosen differentiates it from its competition in the Indian market by making it look more natural and youthful. Also, I am aware of the two different citrus fruits, they are supposed to be that way (and idea I got from the ingredients of the product). I'm not sure whether your views are influenced by the market in your country, but in any case please let me know if you still feel it looks like a juice bottle after my explanation. Thanks :)

@~V~ : Thanks for pointing out the smudged shadow looking thing. I guess that's a mistake on my part in cutting the lemon out of the original image which had a greenish gray background and after the cut the lemon looked out of place on the white BG. In any case I'll try to fix it. As for 'Oil Repair', that's the existing name of the product.

entz : I agree with you on the fact that the old Fructis bottle stood out in any store, but again I think it might look similar to some other bottle in some other country, but not in India. Over here it would still stand out among other shampoo/conditioner bottles as there is no similar design for other shampoos in this market. The main reason why I've decided to move away from the original green bottle design is because that one just isn't appealing enough to the target audience i.e. the youth. It's more of a mature looking design.

@rinaldidesigns : I'd like to refer you to the first part of this post... About the word "Shampoo" (or "conditioner") being on the bottle, yes I know that it is missing. It's a huge flaw which I noticed only after the entire design had been completed and just before getting prints for submission, so I've hurriedly put in "conditioner" above "oil control" in the flat version of the label. I guess I wasn't paying enough attention while working on it. :)

Very nice. An improvement over the original. I wonder if it needs more of a change to stand out. I'm not sure what. Possibly new colors. I'm not to familiar with the original product, but overall a well done package.

I like the re-design it makes me think lite, fresh, and airy. The old design looks heavy next to yours.

The only thing I do not like is the water right above the fruit. :)
